Dental Implants are artificial teeth roots used to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth. An implant offers the patient the opportunity to regain normal tooth function without damaging other teeth. Dental implants often coincide with crowns and dental bridges.
Surgery is used to place implants in the jawbone. We make an incision in the gum and carefully drill a hole in the bone. A metal implant is placed in place. If you need more than one implant, they may be placed at the same time. Arrange to have someone to drive you home after procedure.
It will take 4 to 6 months for the bone in your jaw to grow and fuse to the implant. This fusing is called osseointegration. During this time, you may have a temporary replacement tooth. keep it and the areas near your incision very clean. Go in for checkups as directed.
An abutment is the link between the implant and the artificial tooth it supports. We may place the abutment at the same time as the implant or after the bone has grown and fuse to the implant.
Once your gum have healed, we will take an impression. Within several weeks your final replacement tooth will be made from this impression. Than we will attach it to the abutment.
